Each year, an estimated three to four million women of all ages, occupation, and income levels are battered by their partners. Physical assault, however, is only one of several forms domestic violence can take. Women involved in violent relationships also endure psychological and emotional abuse, sexual assault, social isolation and intimidation.

Nearly one in every three adult women experience at least one physical assault by an intimate partner during adult hood.
